141st Meeting of the ASA
Chicago, Illinois
Tuesday, June 5, 2001

Present were: Sandy Poliachik, Jennifer Elias, Jennifer Munro (for Lisa Zurk), Donna Neff, Brigitte Schulte-Fortkamp, Martha Larson, Alex Tolstoy, Nancy Timmerman, Mardi Hastings, Peggy Nelson, Ellen Livingston, Mary Florentine, and Zoi-Heleni Michalopoulou.

Minutes of the Newport Beach meeting were approved.

Co-chair of the committee, Zoi-Heleni Michalopoulou, announced that she resigns from co-chair, effective the end of the meeting; members of the committee were asked for nominations for the position.

The names of the awardees for the Young Investigator Travel Grant were announced. All applications were exceptional and the selection process was very difficult. Zoi-Heleni Michalopoulou and Peggy Nelson will coordinate the Young Investigator Awards for the next meeting. Peggy Nelson and Ellen Livingston will coordinate the awards for the Spring 2002 meeting.

The cost of the Women in Acoustics Luncheon was discussed. The luncheon has become very successful and is very well attended. It is an essential function for women to network and meet other members. Unfortunately, the current budget cannot cover the expenses of two luncheons per year. It was proposed and approved that attendees of the luncheon pay $10 (except for students). This should be printed in the registration form starting with the Fort Lauderdale meeting.

The committee has been approached by colleagues with questions regarding Women in Acoustics activities in the Cancun meeting. Suggestions were made for inviting a distinguished lecturer; the lecture could be followed by the luncheon.

Ellen Livingston and Alex Tolstoy made announcements on the progress of our web site. The site includes statistics on membership, links of interest, and networking and mentoring information.

Other discussion followed with ideas on future activities. Interaction with schools in the locations of the meetings was mentioned as a potential activity.

Respectfully submitted,
Zoi-Heleni Michalopoulou
Co-Chair
